A web directory is a website that contains links to websites based on category and subcategory (you can compare it to the Yellow Pages). Most of the best web directories have human editors that will review the websites before they are included. There are various types of web directory such as Free Submission, Paid Submission, Bid for Position and Reciprocal Link. Besides contain a list of website by category, directories help build link popularity to website owners. Once a website is including to a web directory, search engines such as Google will index the website address, creating a link back to the website that was submitted.
